Buff up your CVs and ready yourselves for university and the future. Join us at Ken’s for a Summer in Spain!
Like all language abroad junior summer programs, Ken’s is offering the traditional 15hr/week of Spanish as Second Language classes. Students will have class in the morning, a break for lunch and activities in the afternoon. Upon or before arrival, students will take a placement test to determine their level. Should any students want individual classes in addition to their 15hr/week, or classes more suited to Spanish in the city for example, simply contact us for more information.
The basic SSL classes are centered around listening and speaking skills, tools students will need to be able to get around and communicate. Additionally, students will look at grammar, reading and writing to accompany the listening and speaking.
Host Family Accommodation
The homestay families were selected among the best families in the capital. Many have children whose age ranges within that of the student though it is not guaranteed.
Only one student will be assigned to each family, if specifically requested.
Students may share a room with other students and will have full board for the duration of their stay in Teruel. Individual room options are available, contact us for more information. Laundry services and internet connections will be available in the majority of households.
Host families will be located no further than 15 minutes, walking distance, from the school, or 5 minutes in public transport.
Those responsible for the student will be charged with showing them the city and the route to the school.

Why Spanish
Spanish is the second most spoken language around the world, after Mandarin. It is also the second most used language in international communication. Learning Spanish will provide the students with the opportunity to communicate with over 500 million people worldwide. In recent years, Latin American countries have seen an increase in their economic endeavors, and many of the world´s leading economies require Spanish speakers. With this rise in the importance of the Spanish language, Ken´s wants to offer a complete Spanish program for young students between the ages of 13 and 18. This program is characterized by its quality, safety and satisfaction. We at Ken’s understand the importance of a cultural experience and of learning other languages in the 21st century. Keeping the priority of our students in mind, we offer programs of excellent service to ensure these priorities are met.
Why Teruel
Teruel is a small, Spanish city of 36.000 inhabitants. It is located in the south of the Aragón region. It was highly influenced by the Mudejar culture (Arabs) artistically (it has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site) and its climate is characterized by cold winters and dry, warm summers.
Within the tourist attractions, you will find Mudejar architecture, the mausoleo de los Amantes de Teruel (Mausoleum of the Two Lovers), la Plaza del Torico, and the paleontological site, Dinopolis.
The most prominent Mudejar monuments are St. Mary’s Cathedral, the El Salvador, San Martin and San Pedro towers, adjacent to which is the church who took its name, San Pedro.
Interesting festivals include: Holy Week (March-April), the Wedding of Isabel de Segura, which recalls the medieval story of the two lovers of Teruel (February) and the Angel festivals celebrated with La Vaquilla (June-July)
We believe that our city is the ideal setting to develop a Spanish learning and immersion program for numerous reasons such as:
- Teruel is the smallest capital in Spain; therefore it is a quiet and safe city
- It is situated in a strategic location near 4 large cities: Valencia (1.15 hr.), Zaragoza (1.15 hr.), Madrid (2.30 hr.), Barcelona (3.30 hr.)
- For the kindness of the families in our homestay program. It is well known in the Spanish culture that people of Teruel are warm, and always receive visitors to the city with open arms.
- Teruel is the Spanish home to great writers, artists and celebrities, thanks in great part to the excellent education received.
- In Teruel, students can live totally immersed in the language and daily life of the country, approaching the ¨Real Spain¨
